1986 - 22R New Timing Chain Continued

Started job at 1:03pm and finished this stage at 4:00pm.

Removed the following from the 1986 Toyota Truck 22R manual engine with carburetor.

1. Radiator removed including 4 x 10mm bolts and 4 x 12mm bolts. All bolts in a baggie labeled radiator. Note the coolant system needs to be flushed. Brown sludge on the bottom of the radiator that was replaced less than one year ago.

2. Clutch fan removed and 4 x 10mm nuts in new water pump box.

3. Crankshaft bolt. Attached socket to breaker bar and cranked motor to loosen. See picture.

4. Set timing chain. Put yellow marks on spark plug wires of two and three.

5. Disconnected battery and pulled spark plugs.

6. Top dead center.

7. Distributor removed.

8. Removed alternator. Bottom bolts are 14mm.

9. Remove the rubber cooling system hose.

10. Removed air conditioning compressor, bracket, belts and alternator. Note the a/c bracket has over 9 bolts to remove.

11. Removed thermostat inlet.

12. Removed water outlet to water pump.

13. Water pump removed.

14. Removed tow 12mm oil pan bolts.

15. Broke loose bolt holding distributor and removed drive and cam gear.
