Witnessed a squirrel snagging a tomato leaf in the morning. After further inspection of the plant quiet a number of leaves have been chomped off the plant. Surrounded the garden box with wire fence and will will add more framing for support.
Stacked the stove size liquid amber pieces into a square stack. Want to find out if more air will circulate because of the chimney effect and dry the wood faster. So far it's been a couple of weeks and at worst the wood is much more organized.
Planted a bougainvillea brasiliensis with redwood trellis. Suppose to produce "vigorous vine features large clusters of flower bracts in summer", "fast-growing tropical vine", "Grows to 5' tall and 10' wide" and doesn't need much water (water when soil is dry to touch).
Built a 2' x 4' redwood planter box for an "Early Girl Tomato" plant. The tag on the plant says to "grow in full sun for sweetest flavor" so it is done. Mixed in a couple of bags of vegetable garden soil along with dirt from the yard into the box. May need to add a wire fence to keep the squirrels, rabbits and birds out of the box.
From the late 1950's until the mid 1980's, the USAF operated Almaden Radar Site on the summit of Mt. Umunhum, above San Jose, California.
Rode my bike up to the summit in the early 80's just after it was closed. Even though me and a buddy saw signs telling you NOT to proceed we did anyway. Don't remember how long it took but it took a long time. Got to a locked gate that was just in sight of the main tower and we were very disappointed. Then all of a sudden a military vehicle appeared giving us two options. 1) He'll call the sheriff and we can get a ride home, 2) turn-around, ride down and don't come back again. That was a fast bike ride back down the mountain!
The raccoon saga continues on the hottest day of the year. Inspected the crawl space with a drop light and believe the raccoon is out. The next door neighbor says he seen the raccoon come out of the storm drain on a regular basis in the evening. If the raccoon is still in the crawl space we'll know about it tonight!
Took a couple of days longer than anticipated to complete. Added 6' wood strips for additional support left over from door frame project. All three sections kept in place with screws.
Few. Taking forever to paint the two pieces of lattice. Ran out of paint and need to get more to finish this trellis project. Here's a couple of pictures taken 11-08-2006 of the entry without the trellis.
